SCKLM 2016 – 07 Aug 2016

I would say this is the most anticipated marathon event in Malaysia. Just days before the event, lot of stories of nerves issues, injury scare, false alarm, DNS, DNF, bib-trading and etc. Even the 3-days REPC was quite exciting with many booths, products, promos, mingling, selfies and wefies, etc. For this year, about 35K participants (some say more than 38K), a clear reason why it was a big disappointment when it was cancelled last year. This is my 2nd marathon and alhamdulillah managed to finish with GT(4:38:11.92) NT(4:36:13.55) ranked 289 (that's what the cert says..LOL). Honestly that’s a HUGE satisfaction for me. I wasn’t expecting much in terms of performance with yoyo preparation but just hoping to complete the best FM in Malaysia injury-free.

Training plan drastically changed during Ramadhan (no excuse but I just stopped running almost the whole month). Then the biggest mistake was rushing for quick milage right after Hari Raya, and got my reward - injury. The worst hit me a week before the event, during the MHWHNR Putrajaya Half Marathon, almost limping from KM15 to FL, suspecting plantar fasciitis. Though still managed to finish under 2H, the disappointment really put me down, and for that I refused to write anything about the run at all. For the last taper week, I spend more time resting and praying for miracle, hoping the injury will somehow heal by itself. Alhamdulillah Allah granted what i have asked for. Too scared to see a doctor (will surely prescribe the STOP RUNNING medication), and what is scarier than “DNS”?. Probably Fakhrul Fahmy can share on that “Bad Run is Better than No Run”. Right?

Finally, the wait was over at 4:00am on 07 Aug 2016. A throng of 7000 Full Marathon participants flagged off from 4 pens or waves or whatever, according to their choices of expected finishing time. In fact, it makes a lot of difference in terms of timing. Forget about those in Elite Pen and Pen 1, they all be gone quickly after the flag off. But for those in the Pen 4 (last group, where I was started from), its really a snail-pace-early-morning-walk for few KMs. You simply can’t run through such a crowd, and technically run starts at KM3.. hehehe. In this case, Mohd Yusnisan made a very wise choice starting in Pen 2.

Overall, quite interesting route with warm temperature of 27C and a fair elevation (duhhh forget Bukit Tunku). Starting off from Dataran Merdeka passing through the Golden Triangle to Jln Ampang-AKLEH-MRR2-DUKE-Jln Kuching-Bukit Tunku-Jln Parlimen-Jln Damansara and heading back to Dataran Merdeka. Let’s just assume my Garmin and Nike+ apps were at fault, it’s actually over distance with 43.5km (not 42.195k ehh??). I really enjoyed passing through the Smartag lanes on both AKLEH and DUKE, and even stopped for a quick selpie.. LOL. Traffic and marshals were good (though some say got accident somewhere), sufficient direction and signage, good lighting along the route, plenty of WS with minerals, 100+, wet sponges, banana (hey never forget banana for long runs yaa), shower station, power gel, etc. Also nice to have busking and drumming groups along the way. Musolla (temporary surau) was provided at the KM15 (I think) but Subuh was still 12 minutes away when I was there, so only perform prayer at the next WS.

What make this event more special is the fact that many of my fellow runners are running FMV – Mohd Yusnisan, Fyrus Azim, Mohd Habib Fadhullah, Ismail Razali, Don RB, Afzanizam Nor Azmi, Mohd Irwan Bin Ismail, Sofia Nori, Amir Syahmi, Rozanor Nayan Tharmendren Mahadevan(not a virgin lol), Apix Wallrock, Azrizal Hussin Asaruddin Ariffin, Aboi Rashid, Ckuku Mohd (r u?) Mark Fivezal and Zack Zaidi . (Oh man we really missed absentees: Marzuki Khalid - the pokeman with million tricks, big cynical smile to bib-negotiator Mohd Rizwan Jamal the HM-Certified-Karoks. Also wondering bila la bro Ultra Arffaazila Rahmat nak FMV niii).

While most of us enjoyed the beauty of pain running a full marathon, some just taking it a bit hard with the torture. Some has set a better target for next FM, some has pronounced retiring with talak 3 – no more FM forever. Hmmmm may be we should start a bet: They will register again for the next FM? Once the pain is gone just memory of endorphins and the joy of running FM, I would say they will change mind… hehhe. C ya next FM.

For the record, a huge congratulation to Koci for the 3:15 at FMV (too old to catch u Champ) and quite an impressive 4:32 for Isey (sub-4 next FM?). Also big salute to bro Irwan Irwan n Asaruddin for finishing minutes b4 the COT. I myself am not sure can run/walk that long.

Big appreciation to big bro Dulmi Mullar for live tracking from Sabah, cheering and motivating though i can only retrieve those after the race. Risman Mullar Bacho Molar Halima Tusdiah Hj Mullar Rismawati Syafrizal thanks a million for the moral support.

Thanks guys for reading, and lets recover and run again.
